3 Little Ways You Can Reduce Your Need For Home Maintenance

Living in a family home we can call our own is absolutely wonderful, and often the dream of many people. That said, we have to earn this achievement, not only thanks to the mortgage or financial setback that comes with making such a large purchase, but in terms of how we secure the home, and maintain it.

Property maintenance is one of those non-negotioable tasks that can and will be in the purview of every homeowner. This is because if jobs and tasks are left unattended to, they almost always signify the beginning of a bigger problem left unchecked, which could cause even more damage and may even render the property uninhabitable. For instance, a large crack appearing in the wall should not be ignored because it could signify subsidence and the need to fix it ASAP.

In this post, we’ll discuss a few measures by which you can reduce the need for constant home maintenance by either permanently solving or rectifying the preventative causes for certain issues ahead of time. Without further ado, please consider:

Crawl Space Care

A crawl space is often a feature of having a home with a basement area, or raised as part of a level, although these are far from the only two exclusive reasons they exist. That said, this space can often provide nothing but headaches for those hoping to keep good care of their house, as it takes time and energy to maintain and prevent pests from congregating in this area. This is why crawl space encapsulation can be so worthwhile, including reducing soil gases and energy costs.

Gutter Maintenance

Gutter maintenance is a worthwhile measure by which to prevent your gutters from breaking, or diverting water to the wrong places. By virtue of where they’re placed (around our roofing system and of course, visibly out so as it will catch as much water runoff as possible), they may also catch debris too, which can lead to them clogging up and the water from having nowhere to go. Regular cleaning, then, is important, as is making sure that ice is broken up, or that the drains are properly unblocked from around your property. This way, the gutters can function as intended, preventing the need for a massive reinstall later on.

Proper Ventilation

It’s important to make sure your home is properly ventilated. It might be that you keep windows open on occasion, or that you feel that the air quality is generally pretty good in the household, but ventilation and having a light and airy home aren’t necessarily the same thing. Ventilation keeps the air moving, which is essential to dispel moisture in the air, allowing bad odors to leave, as well as protecting against the passing of respiratory viruses as we’ve seen in the last year. For instance, ventilation can prevent the buildup of damp in a home, which can lead to full stripping of wallpaper and plaster in search of a solution, not to mention the fact that the toxins of damp can be a health hazard. For that reason, investing in good ventilation now is key.

With this advice, you’re certain to properly reduce your need for home maintenance going forward.

SATURDAYS ARE FOR STELLA ❤️

Oh, hello there 👋 in case you’re new to my feed, this is Stella. She is an almost 3 year old goldendoodle from Stella, NC. No, we didn’t name her Stella because of the city she was born in. That was a complete coincidence!

She goes by many names - Stella, Stelladoodle, Stu Diddy, Stu, and Moose. Don’t ask 😂 (and whether she responds to any of those names is completely up to her.)

She’s finally graduating the puppy stages (I hope), but it is known that if you’re over and
👟you leave your shoes unattended
👜bag open
🧦socks on the floor
🧻towels in reaching distance to her counter surfing
🏃‍♀️🏃🏃‍♂️you’ll be running circles around the house after her. Don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉

Today we celebrated the life of Heather McMechan, someone I am eternally grateful came into my life, and devastated has left this earth. The church was filled with people that loved her - not one person that crossed her path couldn’t NOT love her.

Forever in my heart ❤️
